Women in Leadership
Why Leadership Program
Rwanda has achieved remarkable progress in gender equality and women's representation, with the highest percentages of women in parliament globally. These successes are attributed to strong political commitment and strategic gender quotas. However, a gap remains in achieving gender equality, particularly at the local government level, where women’s representation is significantly lower. Moreover, young women often lack the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue leadership roles in government, the private sector, and civil society organizations (CSOs). The Intwari Women Project under the Women in Leadership program aims to address these gaps by providing a platform for young women to develop leadership skills, build professional networks, and gain insights into civic and political engagement. The project focuses on storytelling, personal development, and soft skills training, emphasizing the encouragement of young women to pursue public office and advocacy roles.
